Oh shit.
“Screw the paperwork, I *am* going to kill you!”
Oh Shit.
Jack
was tempted to ask what he’d done wrong, but in the last eight and a half months, he had learnt a few things. One of
the things he’d learnt very quickly was that asking that question was along the same lines as stepping back to examine
her if his girlfriend - snicker - asked, “Do I look fat?”
Both were equally dangerous. Both were, also,
equally stupid.
“I mean it! You get your dead ass up here and help me now!”
Would it be considered
manly if he ran like holy hell in the opposite direction? He thought it would be considered smart. Survival instinct and all
that.
“Jack? Honey, please, can you come up here for a second? Please?”
Oh Double Shit.
It
was a yo-yo day.
Jack had christened days like this “Yo-yo” days from the start because she was just that;
an emotional yo-yo. One minute she hated him the next she wanted a hug. But with more emphasis on the hate.
He walked
towards their – snicker, still loved that word. Even if she did want to behead him – bedroom slowly, hoping to
prolong whatever form of torture she had in store for him now
He suspected that Sam got her kicks out of sending him
out to various 24/7 fast food stores at 2am. She did it at least three times a week, and then would be asleep when he got
back. The first time she had fallen asleep, Jack had sat in the lounge room and eaten her Big Mac and fries. Never again.
Ever.
Worst mistake of his life, second only to the time he left the toilet seat up.
“Jack?” Oh
good god now she was sniffling. That was bad. She threw things when she sniffled.
Entering the room, Jack already
had his eyes scrunched closed tightly in preparation of pain; Sam was a big fan of pain. Especially if it was his, lately.
No pain came forth, which didn’t mean he was safe, so he opened his eyes.
Sam was sitting on their bed, tears
streaming down her face her pretty face. She looked so vulnerable wearing her flannelette pajama’s, her hair sticking
up everywhere. Her hand rested on the swell of her belly protectively, and she looked like she just wanted someone to love
her and hug her and make the world go away.
He didn’t buy it for a second.
He loved her more than anyone
else in the world, he really did, but he didn’t trust her for a seconds right now.
“I’m an ass, right?”
She
sniffled and nodded.
“And you hate me, right?’
Another sniffle, another nod.
“And you
want to kill me?”
She shook her head this time and sniffled some more.
“And I’m a… Wait.
You *don’t* want to kill me?”
“No.”
“I’m in your good books?”
“No.”
“Why
not?”
“Because I’m in labor!”
Cool! “Ok. And you’re sure you don’t
want to kill me?”
“No, I need you to take me to the hospital.” Jack nodded, already picking up the
pre-packed bag by their bed and helping her stand. He slipped an arm around her waist to get her to the car.
“Once
the baby’s born though, I am going to kick your ass.”
He was so ok with that.
