She’s 99% certain that she’s
in love with him.
Might be. Maybe. Possibly.
In all of her girly dreams of falling in love and getting married
and having babies and a nice house – even she had them – she had never imagined that she would fall for someone
quite so… unobtainable.
He’s been her Commanding Officer for almost a decade. First, a Colonel to her
Captain, later Major. Then a General to her Colonel. She moved up the food chain of the Air Force and he did too, always just
one level above. So near yet so far.
Yes, unobtainable just about summed it up.
She’s never kissed him
before – alien viruses and memory stamps don’t actually count, nor do time loops; Teal’c has a big mouth
– never really hugged him for no reason other than a desire to be in his arms and surrounded by his scent. Nigh on everything
she knows about him came from Daniel. She an count the number of ‘personal’ conversations that they’ve had
on one hand. She can count the number of times she’s used his first name with even less fingers.
But, despite
all of that, there is still that distinct possibility that she’s in love with him.
It’s actually quite
crap.
“So, roses?”
She hates roses, does he know that? Pete obviously doesn’t.
“Red?
Or perhaps yellow?”
Blue is her favorite colour. He does know that. He brings her blue jello in the Lab when
she’s too busy/tired/stressed/distracted/engrossed in something to think about food… She eats a lot of blue jello.
“Do you think we should have roses on the pew’s too? Or is that too much?”
She wants to get
married in a garden. Freshly cut grass, a light breeze, friends and family around. Intimate, informal.
“We’ll
need to get your dad’s Tux fitted too.”
Dad doesn’t like Pete that much, she knows. Her father is
a fast judge of character, and seldom wrong in his judgements. (Now made a lot wiser with the help of a several hundred year
old Tok’ra.) He was addressing the older man as ‘Dad’ after the second time they met.
“Should
I just jump out the window now or would you like to push me?”
“What?”
“I’m 99%
certain that you haven’t heard a word I’ve said.”
“Is that enough?” Is it? Really?
“What
do you mean?”
“Is 99% enough?”
“It’s as close to positive as it gets.”
“That’s
what I thought too.”
“Sam? What’s this about?”
Yup, she’s 99% certain that she’s
in love with him.
Which is as close to positive that she’s going to get.
